Description

These are scissors that I took to this year’s Pacific Northwest Custom Invitational in Oregon. They are made true size from designs in a trade catalogue produced by F & W Hendricks in Solingen, Germany. Although exact dating is difficult, based on records kept at the archives of the Solingen Drop Forge museum I believe that the catalogue is from the inter-war period (c.1920 – 1928).

The “Petit Monstres” – little monsters – (pattern number 397) are very small and get their name from their extreme proportions, namely the disproportionate size of their bows. These designs were first made popular in France in the mid 1800s for Richelieu embroidery, which is a fine cutwork lace. Their popularity spread and they quickly became used in little sewing sets.

These scissors come with a little leather drop-in sheath.
